This compact painting is based on a fresco in Akrotiri, on the ancient island of Thera, now known as Santorini. Here I use a marvelous medium by Golden Artist Colors called Crackle Paste. After applying it to the panel and letting it cure and crack, I used paint and charcoal pencil.
This image of a youth bearing his bountiful catch lets us catch a glimpse into an island world of beauty and abundance. A companion piece to this, The Veiled Adorant, is the same size, style and media as The Akrotiri Fisherman. You may see it HERE. If you are curious about ancient Thera, and the many frescos that have inspired me, read my blog entry about it HERE. |
