This compact painting is based on a fresco in Akrotiri, on the ancient island of Thera, now known as Santorini. Here I use a marvelous medium by Golden Artist Colors called Crackle Paste. After applying it to the panel and letting it cure and crack, I used paint and charcoal pencil.
This image of a lovely young lady, dancing in a diaphanous veil evokes an idyllic scene from a long lost island nation in the jewel-bright Mediterranean. A companion piece to this, The Akrotiri Fisherman, is the same size, style and media as The Veiled Adorant. You may see it HERE. If you are curious about ancient Thera, and the many frescos that have inspired me, read my blog entry about it HERE. |
