This exhibition is the debut of my new series, Archeology Art. It has been a long time in the making, and I am thrilled.
I am so inspired by ancient artifacts and the myths, legends, and cultural beliefs they embody. In this series, I turn to various archeological finds, and explore their journey through time from their origins to the present day.
I begin by researching the historical context of an artifact, excavation details, site maps, and photographs. From there I create mixed media paintings that depict the object and its cultural significance through time. I have a page devoted to this series where you can see each piece in detail. Go to Archeology Art HERE. Many of the artpieces have blog entries associated with them that further expand upon the archeology and my creative process. You can peruse my blog HERE. |
Originally, I had imagined I would choose archaeological finds from across the globe. Instead, as I delved into one artifact, it naturally led me to explore another, and then another. The result is that the archaeological subjects I chose ended up being concentrated in two regions: Northern Europe and the Mediterranean. Also, the artifacts are largely, though not exclusively, from the Bronze Age.

RiverSea Gallery has been at the heart of the vibrant arts scene in Astoria, Oregon since 1997. Astoria is a wonderful town to visit, situated where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean. The gallery makes its home in a spacious 1920s storefront in the downtown historic district, within strolling distance of restaurants, theaters, hotels, museums, boutiques, and other galleries. It features works in a variety of mediums, including painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramics, woodworking, glass, fiber arts, and furniture.

I will be the featured artist in the large central exhibition space. RiverSea Gallery has supported me since 2012 through many artistic changes, and I am incredibly grateful for the wonderful space they provide for artists and collectors.
