Leslie Peterson Sapp is a narrative artist whose work explores human stories and the passage of time. Through collage, painting, printmaking, and book arts, she examines relationships, symbols, and cultural artifacts, uncovering the layered meanings they hold and their enduring significance in our lives. Several distinct series trace her exploration of these themes. In her Vintage Snapshot series, influenced by the American Realism movement, Sapp transforms found photographs into paintings that reveal the quiet richness of ordinary moments, elevating the unpretentious and happenstance details of everyday life. |

Her Film Noir series draws from the moody aesthetic of classic noir cinema. Using chiaroscuro and complex compositional space, she integrates motifs such as mirrors, doorways, and silhouetted figures to construct narratives filled with tension and ambiguity. These works invite viewers to linger, decipher, and immerse themselves in their shadowy, enigmatic worlds. |

In her Archaeology Art series, Sapp ventures into the distant past, drawing on an eclectic array of archaeological discoveries for inspiration. She layers paintings of these artifacts with excavation maps, photographs, and scientific drawings, often placing them within imagined landscapes. Through this fusion, she reflects on the enduring significance of these objects, their journey through time, and their continued resonance in the present. |

Her newest work centers on deeply personal artist books and visual journals. Here, time is experienced directly, unfolding page by page. Some books emerge as spontaneous, in-the-moment reflections on her daily life and travels, while others explore specific subjects in depth. The resulting works are raw, intimate, and at times, unexpectedly humorous. |
Sapp’s work has been exhibited extensively across the West Coast and beyond. She has been represented by RiverSea Gallery (Astoria, OR), Michael Parsons Fine Art (Portland, OR), American Art Gallery (Carmel, CA), and Route of Art (Florence, AL). Her paintings have appeared on the covers of books and magazines, and her Film Noir series has been featured in interviews and articles by publications specializing in classic cinema.
