Leslie Peterson Sapp is a narrative artist who explores the passage of time through her art.
Leslie's involvement with historical subjects started because she grew up in something of an artifact herself. “The Red House” was the name of her childhood home, which started off as a small pioneer shack in 1875.
It eventually grew to be a multi-level home on a large dairy farm. Her parents researched the property and proudly educated their guests and friends about what they had discovered. Leslie's beloved mother lived in the red house from 1970 to 2004. Leslie's father was an engineer and accomplished musician who loved old time jazz. He led the traditional jazz band Stumptown Jazz from 1984 to 1998. From these seminal experiences Leslie's love of history was born. |
Leslie's work transcends the simple depiction of scenes and objects from the past. Using a variety of subjects and media, she creates a complex blend of elements to bring to light the significance and meaning they hold for us in the present. Leslie's work has been exhibited extensively throughout the west coast and beyond. She has been represented by RiverSea Gallery in Astoria, Oregon; Michael Parsons Fine Art in Portland, Oregon; American Art Gallery in Carmel, California; and Route of Art in Florence, Alabama. |
Her work has appeared on the covers of numerous books and magazines, and she has been interviewed by publications specializing in classic film about her film noir art series. Born and raised in Oregon, she moved to New York City. There she attended Parsons School of Design and The Art Students League, before graduating with honors from The City University of New York at Queens College. She returned to Oregon and currently lives in Lake Oswego. |
Leslie's commitment to the art community has lead her to volunteer for the Arts Council of Lake Oswego on the Public Art and Gallery Without Walls Selection Committees, and is serving on the board of the Lake Oswego Open Studio Tour.
When not creating art, she loves to travel, write, play golf, dance flamenco, and drink martinis with her beloved husband Jim. |
