This femme fatale is both a person and an archetype. She is playing cards with us, the viewer, and at the same time doling out our fate, like a goddess of chaos. The power difference couldn't be more obvious. She is ‘holding all the cards”. Laying on the table is a card that belongs to her opponent, us, the viewer. What is that card? The two of hearts. A weak profession of love. What does she hold? The Queen of Diamonds. The card is presented to us in her black gloved hand, so that it almost seems to hover in space like an apparition. The message is clear: If you want me, you need to bring the goods.
