Expanding on the symbols and themes I discovered while researching The Nebra Sky Disc, Tree Burial I and Tree Burial II, I created this tiny, animate world, where the stars leap across the cosmos, the sun is ferried by a boat full of oarsmen, and we on the earthly plane try with our orderly plans to make sense of it all.
I use an image of a Scandinavian petroglyph, then add a modern plan of an ancient boat. From there I utilize typewriter-style text, iridescent paint, and dancing constellations. I use rubbing alcohol to create the speckled marks that look like splashes, bubbles, or heavenly bodies.
In my blog entry about this piece, I write more about the unexpected twists and turns during its creation. To read it, click HERE.
